Lake Murray Elementary School

When you're managing the flow of XXX 4-6 year olds and YY teachers, you depend on your communications system to be there when you need it. That's why the highly regarded Richland 5 School District chose Carolina Sound to provide the low-voltage systems at their newest elementary school. Lake Murray contains six Carolina Sound systems: a Vodavi StarPlus Digital telephone system, a Dukane StarCall intercom system, a Dukane Media Retrieval system, a Faraday addressable fire alarm system, a Faraday synchronized clock system, and a custom auditorium sound system. The Vodavi phone system is the heart of the school's communications, where dozens of calls a day come in from interested parents, administrators, and vendors. The system is capable of programmable routing and partitioning, so the school can make maximum use of their available lines. The Vodavi system is also integrated with the Dukane intercom, which features telephones in every classroom. This feature maximizes the productivity of Lake Murray teachers by allowing them to call each other during the day and to make and receive calls from parents to keep them well-informed of their children's activities and progress. The phones enhance the children's safety by allowing 911 emergency access or quick access to administrators in the case of a problem. The classroom phones also integrate with the Dukane Media Retrieval system, allowing all of the school's teachers to share the resources of the school's media center and control them by telephone. This saves the district money by not requiring a VCR in each classroom. It also keeps the VCRs in one place, preventing transit damage, and ensures that the media specialist can control the software. The StarCall intercom is also integrated with the central clock system, so all classroom clocks show the same time and are linked to the intercom's electronic bell system. Student safety is a primary concern of every school and of Carolina Sound, so we installed a Faraday fire alarm system. The system is capable of precisely locating a fire for the administrators via a text display and a graphic map of the school. It controls air-conditioner shutdown and automatic doors to prevent the spread of smoke in case of an evacuation. It is also linked by telephone to a central monitoring station, allowing for the fastest possible response of emergency fire personnel. In the unique sunken auditorium, a Soundsphere speaker brings quality sound to the audience courtesy of a Dukane in-wall mixer/amplifier system.

It's no wonder that Lake Murray Elementary School is considered a model facility for both Richland county and the state. With such terrific communications tools available, the talented staff can spend their time concentrating on the children, not the equipment.
