Charleston is a popular destination for conference groups and business travelers. To best serve this type of client, the Charleston Hilton asked Carolina Sound to redesign the aging audio systems throughout the hotel to maximize convenience for their clients and reliability for the hotel. Central to the hotel's business functions is their giant ballroom. This ballroom can be subdivided into as many as eight smaller rooms or combined in almost any combination to provide the perfect size room to any client. Carolina Sound designed a remote combining system wherein each of the eight rooms has its own totally independent sound system, with dedicated speakers, microphone jacks, and line-level inputs. At the touch of a switch, two or more rooms can be combined, automatically making any mic jack and all speakers common for that area. Each room has its own volume control, output for taping, and input in case clients want to use their own sound systems with the hotel's speakers. Line inputs are provided in each room in case a client needs to add their own source, such as a VCR, cassette deck, CD player or MP3 unit. This complex process of combining and separating rooms is handled by IRP's System 41. This card-cage style system provides automatic mixing, automatic and remote level controls, and combining circuitry in one powerful package. IRP amplifiers provide the power for the ballrooms. The Hilton also chose music by Muzak to make their guests feel at home throughout the hotel. To allow their meeting room clients maximum flexibility, the Hilton chose Muzak's direct-broadcast satellite (DBS) delivery. With eight simultaneous channels to choose from, the Hilton can provide the right music for any organization. Satellite switching is controlled by TOA matrixing switchers, which control not only the meeting rooms but numerous other areas throughout the facility. TOA and IRP amplifiers feed the lobby, lounge, board rooms, spa, dining area and pool. A recent upgrade to JBL speakers means the clearest possible sound for the Hilton's discerning corporate clients.
