Johnson Hagood Stadium
Home Welcome!

Up

The home of the famed Bulldogs required sound power that could overwhelm the incredibly enthusiastic crowds that fill the stadium during football season and for special events. Carolina Sound is there with a system that met the special needs of The Citadel. These special needs included the ability to integrate the radio broadcasts of the game with the home system, and the ability to remove the system entirely from the stadium during the off-season to protect it from weather and theft or vandalism. Sound is provided by a custom cluster of eight high-power Soundolier compression drivers and horns. The upper horns serve the near side of the bleachers and the lower horns serve the far side. Each is independently adjustable to provide even coverage across the entire stadium. Microphone jacks are provided in the press booth and in a weatherproof box at the field. Shure handheld and headset microphones are used for the play-by-play. All electronics are housed in a custom StarCase flight case, and all connections to the system are made via a custom jack panel. Three Ashly amplifiers power the system in a unique arrangement where two amps are in use all the time, and the extra amp can be substituted for either of the main amps with the flick of a switch. This means no down time for the system if there's ever an amplifier failure during a game. A TOA modular mixer/amplifier provides inputs for various sources and power for the press-box speakers. A Sabine Feedback Eliminator ensures that there's plenty of volume without any ear-splitting feedback. A Paso tuner allows The Citadel to broadcast radio reports of other games during half-time and entertains the cadets during practices. And when the season's over, The Citadel just snaps the covers on the flight case and removes the entire electronics package to air-conditioned secure storage.
